A local organization is among those from across the state to receive federal funding to prepare for a new suicide prevention lifeline.
The Center for Community Resources in Butler is one of 13 call centers that will divide $340,000 in preparation for the launch of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s 988 call number in July of 2022.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services will use this money for strategic planning as well as infrastructure development such as possibly increasing building capacity to support increased call volume, coordinating local support, or raising awareness of the launch.
The 988 call number will eventually replace the current 1-800-273-TALK number where people in crisis can access intervention services.
