A familiar face is joining the race for Butler County Court of Common Pleas.
Jennifer Gilliland Vanasdale declared her candidacy for the upcoming open seat in the county courthouse yesterday morning.
“I want to change the courthouse, and I want to change and challenge the status quo so that we can really strive to promote justice for all in our court system, and in our election system,” Gilliland Vanasdale said.
However, you won’t see her name on the primary ballot this spring. Instead of cross-filing like most candidates, she is opting to run as an independent.
“A judge should be independent. So I thought it was a perfect blend of an opportunity to advance the betterment of the court system and the community at large,” she added.
Gilliland Vanasdale previously ran for the Court of Common Pleas in 2019. She lost in the primary, before mounting a write-in campaign in the fall that saw her garner over 9,000 votes.
