The City of Butler will enter into an agreement with the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District for new firefighting equipment.
The city has approved a 15-year lease agreement for 15 self-contained breathing apparatus at an annual cost of $1 per year.
Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala explained that the city will trade in 19 older breathing packs as part of the deal that Township firefighters negotiated on a large number of breathing apparatus.
This will allow city and township firefighters who often work on the same fires to be able to use equipment interchangeably. The units are being leased so that they will remain under warranty for 15 years.
