The Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will retire at the end of the year, but is stepping down from the role earlier than usual.
Justice Thomas Saylor says he wants to ensure an orderly transition, so he’ll be stepping down at the end of the month as the top judge on the state Supreme Court.
Pittsburgh native Max Baer will assume the Chief Justice duties on April 1st.
Saylor will turn 75 this year, so he is mandated to retire per the state Constitution. He will remain on the Court until December.
