Democrats across Pennsylvania are renewing their push for the state to increase the minimum wage.
Governor Tom Wolf and his administration have put forward a plan to gradually increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
Acting Secretary of Labor and Industry Jennifer Berrier says one area that an increase would impact is healthcare.
“Raising the wage would allow more than 102,000 adults work their way off of Medicaid,” Berrier said. “And that’s not only going to help those Pennsylvanians, but also all of us by reducing the cost of Medicaid.”
The current proposal by Democrats would see the minimum wage jump to $12 per hour starting in July, and then gradually to $15 per hour over the next couple of years.
