Governor Tom Wolf is joining the group Cease Fire PA in calling for more work to be done in combating gun violence.
It comes in the wake of the mass shooting this week in Boulder, Colorado. The organization’s director Adam Garber explains one of the legislative goals.
“Extreme risk protection orders to create a mechanism to temporarily remove firearms from someone who wants to harm themselves or others,” Garber said.
The group also supports requiring the reporting of lost or stolen firearms and closing loopholes in background checks.
Wolf believes in CeaseFirePA’s mission and supports the legislation.
“We all need to raise our voices together to call for change. I am proud to stand with CeaseFirePA and I look forward to signing legislation to make Pennsylvanians safer,” Wolf said.
Wolf also noted that nearly three-quarters of homicides and half of suicides in Pennsylvania use a firearm.
