Butler County will be receiving $37 million through the American Rescue Plan.
The latest relief package will see the county receive more than double the amount of money the first CARES Act package offered. Commissioner Leslie Osche says the county is getting ready to work on a plan for how to use the funding.
“We’ve been gathering info at this point. We’re all waiting for guidelines to come from the Department of Treasury and others related to the funds because the guidelines aren’t even established yet,” Osche said.
Osche says that municipalities will be receiving money as well, so funds won’t have to be directed to them in this package. Instead, the county will be looking at all angles to see how to best leverage the new funds.
“I think there will be a series of different meetings so we capture input from a lot of different groups, including the public,” Osche said. “I think once we have some categories nailed down, I’d like to hear from the public on how we should spend it. It’s their money.”
Osche also mentioned possible providing more relief to the hospitality industry or other groups that are continuing to face adversity during the pandemic.
