Voters will decide on May 18th the extent of the legislature’s role in how much power the governor of Pennsylvania has during an emergency.
Last week, the state’s emergency management director Randy Padfield laid out his argument for the need of an executive authority during an emergency.
“These authorities, which are contained in state disaster declarations, provide the ability to quickly responds and address critical needs of the citizens,” Padfield said. “While concurrently focusing on recovery operations making the situation better as fast as possible.”
Proponents of the bill believe that the legislature should have a voice in emergency management decisions in order to provide a check on the executive branch.
