Legislation sponsored by a local lawmaker could change how sell-by dates are determined for pasteurized milk.
Senate Bill 434 sponsored by Republican State Senator Elder Vogel has been approved by the Senate. It would allow milk processors to use a “best by” or “sell by” date beyond the current 17-day regulatory limit.
If signed into law, this bill would allow milk producers to apply for approval from the state Department of Agriculture using periodic testing requirements and laboratory standards.
The bill next moves on to consideration by the state house.
