The Saxonburg Carnival is coming up in a couple of weeks, but organizers are planning some changes.
The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company runs the annual event as a fundraiser, but they say due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID at the beginning of the year, it forced them to make some changes.
“We made the unfortunate decision to not do the big parade, which I think is what most people want or like about the carnival,” Saxonburg VFC President Chuck Lewis said. “We’re not out of the parade business; we may be doing that in the future with the great response this year. But we’re not going to be able to do that in August.”
He also says the Pet Parade and Water Battle will not be happening this year for the same reasons. However, there will be no admission to get into the carnival.
“We reached out to our area businesses and we asked them, quite frankly, ‘Can you help us out?'” Paul Donaldson of the VFC said. “And so thankfully we were able to get enough sponsorships where there will be no gate charge to anybody.”
There will still be carnival rides and vendors this year. The Saxonburg Carnival runs from August 18th-21st.
