State lawmakers are bringing attention to the ongoing shortage of bus drivers this school year.
Members of the senate approved a resolution saying that certain federal requirements for drivers make it difficult to get enough workers.
“To the very unnecessary burdensome provision of the CDL that requires a school bus driver to get mechanical training to fix an engine on the school bus if that engine fails on the route,” State Senator John Yudichak said. “Clearly, these transportation companies have mechanics. We should look at creating a specific CDL to the school bus industry.”
Many local districts say a bus driver shortage is impacting their ability to get kids to-and-from school in a timely manner.
