State health officials are encouraging people to get the flu vaccine over the next couple of weeks.
Acting Physician General Dr. Denise Johnson spoke yesterday and said the flu shot is the best way to defend against getting severe symptoms.
“The people who get the flu shots, if you do get the flu those illnesses are milder and those can really prevent hospitalizations. We know that the flu is still deadly, and people die every year from the flu and getting the vaccination can really protect you,” Johnson said.
Johnson also says that symptoms of COVID are similar to flu and it’s important to get tested if you start feeling sick.
The Department of Health asks that you get a flu shot before the end of the month.
