As workforces are stretched thin across the country, Butler Health System is no different.
So when more people were needed to help administered COVID vaccinations—a group of retired workers stepped up, including former Chief Nursing Officer Mabel Gray.
“Many of those retirees worked for Butler Health System,” Gray said. “They’re so happy to be here. They know how great Butler Health System is and they want to be a part of this process.”
Hospital officials say retirees mainly make up the vaccination staff at the moment.
Gray said nurses felt a sense of duty whenever help was needed.
“When you’re retired and you’re sitting at home, and you’re a nurse, you feel sort of helpless,” Gray said. “To be able to do this to help Butler Health System out, is just so rewarding.”
Pediatric vaccination clinics are now entering their second week, and the adult vaccination clinic at the Crossroads Campus continues to operate every weekday.
