A year after the first Saturday-Sunday opening in the history of state firearms deer season, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is inviting hunters back to the woods to participate in another opening weekend.
The commission is also rolling out changes that allow hunters increased flexibility in when and where deer can be harvested. Hunters with licenses can harvest either antlered or antlerless deer at any time during the season as well as in any location. Also, a regulation change allows hunters to hold up to six antlerless licenses at a time.
The statewide general firearms deer season runs through December 11th with only Sunday, December 5th unavailable. Hunters are reminded to be safe by wearing the required amount of florescent orange material on head, chest, and back as well as wearing a full-body harness while hunting from a tree stand.
Last year’s Saturday-Sunday start to rifle deer season resulted in the largest overall deer harvest in the last 15 years with over 435,000 during the entire 2020-21 hunting season.
