The Steelers playoff hopes dimmed once again yesterday evening as they fell to the now AFC West Champion Kansas City Chiefs 36-10. The Chiefs, who won their sixth consecutive division championship, jumped out to a quick 14-0 advantage in the 1st quarter and never looked back as they out-played the Steelers in every facet of the game.
Despite not having their all-pro tight end in Travis Kelce, Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed for 258 yards and three touchdowns while playing only three quarters of the game.
The Steelers helped the Chief’s cause turning the ball over three times, once on a first quarter interception, and then two fumbles. The Steelers only touchdown came late in the game with the score 36-3 when Ben Roethlisberger tossed a 15 yard pass to Diontae Johnson with just under three minutes remaining.
The Steelers still have a slight chance at making the playoffs but will have to win both of their remaining games – next Monday night at home against the Browns, and then the following Sunday at Baltimore.
After yesterday’s action where the Bengals beat the Ravens 41-21 as quarterback Joe Borrow threw for a franchise record 525 yards and 4 TDs, Cincinnati now leads the division at 9-6, the Ravens are 8-7, the Steelers at 7-7-1, and the Browns still hanging around at 7-8 after falling to the Packers 24-22 Christmas Day. All 4 teams still have a chance at the playoffs with two games remaining.
