Major upgrades are coming to Father Marinaro Park after the city was selected for a significant grant.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources awarded Butler with a $108,000 grant to help toward the renovation of the park.
Included in the renovations are updates to the current softball field, build a new softball field, along with buying new playground equipment, resurfacing the basketball court, and building a new shelter.
Former councilman Jeff Smith helped secure the grant through the state.
“I spent a lot of time putting it together and working with different groups, like the softball and skateboard groups. That park has so much more community involvement than it did a few years ago.”
Smith says work on the park should begin sometime this year.
