If you have an older cell phone that still relies on 3G, state officials say you’re going to need a new phone soon.
Mobile carriers are preparing to eliminate 3G networks across Pennsylvania this year in order to free up infrastructure that can handle 5G.
That means you won’t be able to make phone calls or send text messages.
Jeff Boyle of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency says it could also impact other devices.
“Things like medical alert devices, tablets and home security systems that rely on 3G could be impacted,” Boyle said.
Boyle says to call your phone company if you’re unsure about what network your phone is on.
