A new judge is taking over the case in the Tree of Life shooting trial.
U.S. District Judge Robert Colville has been assigned the case following the retirement of 76-year-old Judge Donna Ambrose.
Colville takes over a case that has seen a number of delays. The defense attorneys for the accused shooter, Robert Bowers, have been accused of dragging out the case. Judge Ambrose ruled on a number of legal challenges during the case.
Bowers is currently facing the death penalty, although his lawyers are reportedly seeking a plea deal to avoid that punishment.
Since the shooting in 2018, Bowers has been housed in the Butler County Prison.
