The Mars Area School Board has revised their policy concerning community use of school facilities.
Following a brief discussion Tuesday about Policy 707, the board voted unanimously to change the threshold for a discounted fee from at least 90% of participants residents of the Mars Area School District to at least 75%. The exact fee varies depending on the facility being used and the purpose of the use.
Specifically, this policy change affects fees charged to the local troop of Boy Scouts who presented their situation to board members at the work session meeting last week. This policy was put in place last year to prevent groups made up of people mostly residing outside of the district from overusing district facilities.
This change is retroactive to July 1st of last year when the scouts were first charged the higher rate for using district facilities.
