Several lawsuits to challenge the new district map for State Senate and House of Representatives have been dismissed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Last month, a lawsuit filed by Butler native Republican Ryan Covert and others named the state’s Legislative Reapportionment Commission as the defendant responsible for a map approved February 4th that splits the county into four different legislative districts (8th, 11th, 12th, 17th).
Wednesday afternoon the Court ruled that the final plan filed by the Commission is in compliance with the state’s Constitution and is not contrary to any law so it will be used in all upcoming elections. In addition to four members of the State House, Butler County will now be split by two State Senators (Districts 21 and 47).
The Court also stated that the order which temporarily suspended the upcoming primary election has been vacated which will allow that process to move forward.
