Jamey Joseph O’Hanlon, 64, of East Brady, passed away following an automobile accident on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
Jamey was born September 16, 1957, in Pittsburgh, PA to Joseph Eugene O’Hanlon, Sr. and Dorothy Fay (Geisler) O’Hanlon.
Jamey attended Hampton High School in Allison Park, PA where he participated in multiple school activities including basketball, baseball, and chorus before graduating in 1975. He was long committed to his faith as a Christian, always finding an active role in the churches in the communities to which he belonged over his lifetime. He was most recently a member of Zion Church of Petroleum Valley and participated in the ACTS Choir.
With his love of sports and talented voice, Jamey pursued a career as a radio sports broadcaster, first with WCBC in Cumberland, MD and then WTYM in Kittanning, PA. He retired earlier than he hoped in 2001 due to health issues.
Jamey was a history buff and also greatly enjoyed music, watching sports and telling his classic “dad jokes”. He had the honor of singing the National Anthem for various baseball teams such as the Butler Bluesox and the Altoona Curve. He performed with the barbershop quartet The Harmonics, a Christian do-whop group, for 15 years.
Surviving him are wife Virginia (Ginny) O’Hanlon of East Brady, PA; one son: Brandon O’Hanlon and wife Jada of Beaver Falls, PA; two daughters: Arynne Fretwell and her husband Brad of Gibsonia, PA; Cara Geibel and husband Stephen of Butler, PA; seven grandchildren: PV2 Kayl O’Hanlon, Kiah and Greyson O’Hanlon, Catherine, Chloe and Edward Geibel and Theodore Fretwell. one brother: Joseph Eugene O’Hanlon, Jr. and wife Kathy of Whitaker, PA; one sister: Dorinda Aigner and her husband Thomas of East Brady, PA; three nieces: Darcie Bishop and her husband Jacob; Reagan Aigner; Stefanie Dorrance and her husband Ryan; six nephews: Colonel Joseph Eugene O’Hanlon III and his wife Angela; Brady O’Hanlon, Colin O’Hanlon, Matthew O’Hanlon and wife Emily; Richard Galinowski and Jordan Auth and wife Deena; sister-in-law Janet Galinowski and her husband Pete; brothers-in-law: Rick Auth and wife Joanie; Russell Auth and wife Garnet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Sr, and Dorothy, his first wife: Jewel (Lilly) O’Hanlon and his second wife: Donna (Errington) O’Hanlon.
There will be no public viewing per Jamey’s wishes, and he will be cremated without a traditional funeral reception.
Instead, family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 1pm at Zion Church of Petroleum Valley, 1392 Kittanning Pike, Karns City, PA 16041 with Pastor Joe Olkowski officiating. A luncheon will follow.
