The Pittsburgh Pirates were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles 10-9 in Bradenton Tuesday. The Bucs visit the Detroit Tigers today at 1:05pm.
Following the game yesterday, the Pirates optioned a dozen players to their minor league camp. The players include outfielder Travis Swaggerty, their 2018 first-round draft pick.
The Pirates and outfielder Bryan Reynolds are heading to arbitration after they were not able to come to a contract agreement prior to Tuesday’s deadline. Reliever Chris Stratton has agreed to a one-year $2.7 million deal.
Major League Baseball and the players union have agreed to more tweaks to playing rules. The two sides have agreed to an expanded 28-player roster until May 2nd this season. They will also bring back a runner at second base in extra innings for one more season. They are also introducing a rule to allow pitchers who begin a game as the team’s designated hitter to remain in the game after the player is done on the mound for the day.
