A recent decision by the state’s auditor general is getting pushback from some state lawmakers and education organizations.
Tim DeFoor announced that his office would no longer be doing audits of school districts across the state. He argues that the responsibility lies with the Department of Education.
However, critics of the decision include the state’s largest teachers union, which argues that the Education Department won’t be able to handle that workload.
DeFoor meanwhile says his office doesn’t have the staff to handle the audits and that it was originally under the Education Department’s purview.
