The state Department of Agriculture is making an investment to help promote crop development in Pennsylvania.
Nearly $1 million has been set aside as specialty crop block grants that are designated for research on agricultural products crucial to the Keystone State.
State Agricultural Secretary Russell Redding was at Penn State this week and said the university was a great example of how these funds are being used to research an area such as pollination.
“I’m really impressed with the work that’s being done. Each time that the research proposals come, or the specialty crop block grants come, there’s another dimension to pollination that’s not always obvious to me,” Redding said.
Other products that are considered high priority in Pennsylvania are hemp, hops, barley and rye.
