The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. The NHL’s leading scorer, Connor McDavid, had a four point night with a goal and three assists. The Pens gave up two power play goals, and allowed a goal within 30-seconds of their only goal of the game.
Jeff Carter scored the only Penguins goal, his 19th of the season. Casey DeSmith stopped 37 of 41 shots in net for the Pens.
It was the first time the Penguins have lost at home to the Oilers since 2006, which was Sidney Crosby’s rookie season.

It was the Penguins second straight loss, and they have now lost 11 of their past 17 games.
Despite the loss, the Pens did not lose any ground to the Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division, after the Caps also lost last night 4-1 to the New York Islanders. The Pens have 101 points, Washington has 100. The Pens complete their regular-season schedule Friday against Columbus.
The Carolina Hurricanes clinched the Metropolitan Division last night following their 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers.
