The Pittsburgh Penguins and Fenway Sports Group announced last evening that team president and chief executive officer David Morehouse has resigned. Morehouse helped the team win three Stanley Cup titles and open PPG Paints Arena. The Beechview native said he knows the team is in good hands with the new ownership group, and that the “solid footing” allows him to step away from the team at this time. Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle hired Morehouse to lead the organization in 2007 after being a consultant for three years.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be scoreboard watching tonight as the Washington Capitals visit the New York Islanders at 7pm. The Pens lead the Caps by one point in the Metropolitan Division. The Pens host Columbus Friday. The Caps complete their regular season Friday against the New York Rangers. The Rangers, who will finish second overall in the division, lost to Montreal 4-3 last night. The Canadiens snapped a nine-game losing streak with the win.
The Dallas Stars lost to Arizona 4-3 in overtime last night, but the point they earned allows them to join Nashville as the final Wild Card teams in the Western Conference.
