After weeks of slow decline, gas prices have jumped up both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole over the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by 20 cents over the past week to reach at $4.37 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by 17 cents during that same time to arrive at $4.35. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $4.29, while the most expensive is $4.39 in Oil City.
The average national gas price increased by seven cents over the past week to reach $4.19 which equates to about $23 more for a fill up than a year ago. According to AAA, the continued high cost of crude oil due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine remains the main factor driving prices at the pump.
