A Democratic candidate for Senate made a stop in Butler County yesterday.
Congressman Conor Lamb spoke to a group of voters at North Country Brewery in Slippery Rock yesterday afternoon. He addressed a number of issues, including the possibility of the Supreme Court overruling Roe vs. Wade.
“It’s about conserving things that a most essential and important in our society. And the lawful right of access to abortion that women have held for almost 50 years is a fundamental constitutional right,” Lamb told the crowd of a couple dozen.
He also reinforced his belief in that social security needs to be sustained.
“When you see that money come out of your paychecks every two weeks for a decade, two decades, and then three decades, that money is piling up like an insurance policy that you’re taking for your old age,” Lamb said. “That insurance policy is that you won’t be suffering poverty when you’re 65.”
“People really resent the idea that politicians can come in from out of state, who are millionaires and are never going to need these programs, and say that social security should be privatized, or limited, or that they’re going bankrupt. That’s not true,” Lamb said, taking a shot at the top two polling Republicans Dr. Oz and Dave McCormick.
Lamb acknowledged that the policy differences between him and his opponents aren’t too different, but he made the argument that he’s the best candidate to win in November.
“What I can offer you that no other candidate in the race can offer you is that I have actually been there head-to-head in big spotlight races, like this one, and I’ve come out on top,” Lamb said.
Lamb is a native of Pittsburgh and has served in Congress since 2018.
