A summer camp in Prospect is the latest recipient of funds from the former Grace@Calvary Church.
The church closed its doors this year after 132 years in the City of Butler, but has been making donations to various organizations to help sustain its legacy.
Late last week, the church donated $328,000 to Camp Lutherlyn.
“It was awesome,” Lutherlyn’s Executive Director Deb Roberts said. “Grace@Calvary has been an important part of Lutherlyn for a long time. So, it was a very cool way for them to continue their legacy and benefit Lutherlyn campers.”
Roberts says the donation comes at a perfect time as the camp launches its three-year capital campaign. One of the projects the funds will go toward has a special connection to Grace@Calvary.
“It’s a very full circle story. One of the founding directors of Lutherlyn, Dr. Russell Steininger, the amphitheater is named after him, he was a part of Grace@Calvary Church. The amphitheater renovation is a part of that campaign.
Camp Lutherlyn is getting ready for their summer camp, which enrolls about 800 kids. Roberts says supervisors started arriving this week, and camp kicks off on June 19th.
