A local lawmaker is taking time to recognize the dairy industry in Pennsylvania.
State Senator Elder Vogel was a part of an effort to recognize June as Dairy Month—an industry he says is very important to the state’s economy.
“Beyond the nutritional benefits of milk and other dairy products, dairy provides so much more to Pennsylvanians,” Vogel said. “This industry generates $12.6 billion in economic activity annually, making valuable contributions and infusing money into both state, local, and rural economies.”
Vogel also said that most of the dairy farms in the state are family owned and support around 52,000 jobs in the state.
