A House committee has approved legislation that would legalize and regulate driverless cars in Pennsylvania.
Advocates for the bill say it’s a necessary step as the highly automated vehicle industry continues to grow.
Republican State Representative Donna Oberlander from Clarion is optimistic about the impact driverless cars can have on the economy.
“The capacity that this industry has to really turn our economy on its head and grow is outstanding,” Oberlander said. “I believe that it will help address current and continuing supply chain issues. And I do believe that it will save lives and improve safety.”
Pittsburgh has served as a hub of automated vehicle companies—with two separate organizations making the downtown area their headquarters.
