A Butler native is being sentenced to 14 years in a Russian maximum-security prison.
Marc Fogel was arrested last year in Moscow after airport officials found “large-scale cannabis” in his luggage. Fogel was allegedly using medical marijuana to help recover from back surgery, and said that he did not know that medical marijuana was illegal in Russia.
Fogel had worked at the US Embassy in Moscow, and was teaching at an Anglo-American school there.
Fogel grew up in Butler, graduating from Butler High School in the 1970s.
