A local lawmaker is trying to find out what happened to the statue of former Penn State Nittany Lions Head Football Coach Joe Paterno.
State Representative Aaron Bernstine recently introduced an amendment to Senate Bill 1283 which provides funding for state-affiliated universities that would require Penn State to submit a report about the location and condition of the statue.
The statue was removed from a pedestal in front of Beaver Stadium in the summer of 2012 to be stored in an unnamed secure location to allow for healing after the Jerry Sandusky abuse scandal.
Bernstine recently wrote and sent a letter to the President of Penn State stating that Paterno’s legacy on the field should remain known as his donation to the campus library is still recognized with a plaque.
Bernstine’s amendment would also require Penn State’s report to the legislature about the statue be posted to the University’s website.
