The 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week begins today.
This annual observance is held nationwide to remind residents of the dangers of house fires and how easily they can occur.
The National Fire Protection Association has announced that this year’s theme is “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape” This focuses on reminding people that developing and practicing an escape plan with all members of a household is critically important to fire safety.
The NFPA reports that three quarters of all deaths as a result of fire occur in the home. To avoid becoming a statistic, experts recommend that residents install smoke alarms inside and outside of every sleeping room on each level of a home. Also, know at least two ways out of all rooms if possible and make sure all doors and windows open easily.
