The Department of Justice in Western PA is releasing data from the past year detailing the number of scams involving the elderly.
They say from September 2021 to September 2022, the Department investigated and pursued around 260 cases, which involved around 600 defendants.
Department officials say they have made a concerted effort to prosecute the scammers and to help victims receive restitution. They have also added more employees to their elder fraud team.
Officials also note that consumers contacting law enforcement about fraud and fraud attempts, is critical to their investigations.
