The Butler Area School District is taking action to help ensure enough bus drivers are available to transport students efficiently.
During Monday’s school board meeting, the board approved a stipend of $15 per driver per day over and above normal pay for the rest of the current school year.
According to Superintendent Dr. Brian White, this money will come out of the district’s transportation budget which is expected to be lower than anticipated due to fewer routes needing to be run.
“We need drivers and we want to recognize the drivers that are showing up each day for us by adding a daily stipend to their compensation,” White said. “Hopefully that will also entice other drivers to work for Valley Lines and provide transportation to us.”
“We had multiple instances last week where we did not have buses for all of our students to meet all of our needs. So we’re hitting a challenging point and we’re hoping this helps mitigate that as well.”
Those interested in taking advantage of this offer as a Butler school bus driver should call the Valley Lines bus company for more information (724-287-0003).
