Gas prices jumped up both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by a dime over the past week to reach $4.01 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by nine cents during that same time to arrive at $3.97. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Brookville at $3.74, while the most expensive is $4.07 in Mercer.
The average national gas price increased by 12 cents over the past week to reach $3.91 due to a jump in domestic gas demand and an increase in the price of oil. The rise in the cost of oil is connected to the recent announcement by OPEC+ that they plan to slash output.
