Traffic fatalities have been trending up in Pennsylvania since 2020 and state officials are encouraging drivers to take steps in keeping the road safe.
PennDOT spokesperson Alexis Campbell says slowing down is important in keeping the roads safe along with eliminating distracted driving.
“It’s just really important that when you’re driving you’re giving 100 percent of your attention to the task at hand 100 percent of the time,” Campbell said.
Campbell says that after seeing a dip in traffic fatalities in 2019, that number went up in 2020 despite there being fewer cars on the road. That trend continued in 2021, and so far the pace is similar this year.
Campbell also says do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 to report an aggressive driver or someone you suspect to be driving under the influence.
