Community members gathered in celebration of a project at a youth facility that will now make it more accessible for those with disabilities.
Dan Markel serves as a director at the Petroleum Valley Youth Center. He also has muscular dystrophy and is in a wheelchair. During his time at the camp, he recognized it wasn’t ADA accessible.
He began an initiative to raise over $50,000 in order to build ADA bathrooms and parking spaces. The group hit their goal and the renovations were unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday.
Markel hopes to continue making the center more ADA-friendly with a platform at the pond area.
