State police in Mercer County are conducting a joint investigation with law enforcement in Ohio after a 14-year-old boy was pulled over last week on Interstate 80.
Just after 8 a.m. Saturday troopers stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 18, which is just west of the I-79 exit in Findley Township.
Police observed a handgun in the van and determined that the juvenile male driver had likely stolen the vehicle. The van was registered to a 71-year-old man in Euclid, Ohio but police were not able to contact him. Troopers contacted Euclid police who visited the man’s residence and found him dead.
The boy is currently being held at a detention facility while the investigation continues in both Pennsylvania and Ohio.
