Although the cost of utilities continues to rise, the Knoch School District has locked in a price that they believe will allow them to realize savings over what they are currently paying.
At their Wednesday night meeting, the Knoch School Board approved an agreement with Direct Energy to provide gas and electric for a term of 36 months.
The district’s current gas rate is about $8 per DTH while the new rate is about $5.15 per DTH.
The district is currently paying about 17 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity but the new deal will drop that cost to nearly 8 cents.
Although a four year deal would allow for about $700 in savings per month, the district decided on the flexibility of a shorter agreement with slightly less savings.
