The City of Butler has named a new treasurer.
Linda Graham-Greek was approved by a 4-1 vote to take over the position on an interim basis. Councilman Don Shearer cast the lone dissenting vote.
Graham-Greek was one of two candidates who applied for the job following the departure of current city treasurer Aaron Bonus, who is moving out of the city.
Council members said Graham-Greek’s history in writing job descriptions was one of the reason she was selected for the position.
She currently works for Hudson Business Services and is an adjunct professor at Butler County Community College.
Former councilman and city treasurer Jeff Smith was initially nominated for the position, but was voted down by council on a 3-2 vote.
“Both of these candidates are more than qualified. But I’m hoping that Linda can bring some stability to the position,” Dandoy said.
Bonus took over the position in 2019. Council members said that there has been significant changes to the treasurer job over the last 10 years, with a number of services now being outsourced.
“Council has a busy year in front of us. I’m looking for a smooth transition and not to shake things up,” Councilman Dan Herr said.
Aaron Bonus has been the City Treasurer since June of 2019 but announced his plans to resign earlier this month since he plans to move outside of the city.
The position is up for election in 2023. Dandoy said Graham-Greek has not committed to running for a four-year term, but is hopeful that she will like the job and might consider a run in 2023.
