The recent demolition of a long vacant building in Butler Township holds a connection to a local homicide.
According to Butler Township Police Lieutenant Matt Pearson, the owner of the former Lyndora Legion at 100 Bessemer Avenue discovered a dead body in the basement January 25th, 2009.
The body was identified as 24-year-old Shawn Murphey of Butler. An investigation of over a year resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old Kevin Campbell also of Butler. At the time, a tattoo shop was located in the building where Campbell worked and Murphey was a customer. Murphey was allegedly killed after a disagreement Christmas Eve.
Campbell was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
