The Pennsylvania Farm Show is nearly underway in Harrisburg.
This is the 107th year for the show, which highlights different aspects of the agriculture industry in our state. The Pennsylvania Farm Show features over 12,000 exhibits including animal competitions and commercial vendors.
A farm show crowd favorite is returning as a half-ton butter sculpture will be unveiled later today by PA Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding who discusses this year’s theme.
“This year’s theme is ‘Rooted in Progress’ as we recognize the deep roots of agriculture in Pennsylvania’s heritage. As well as the significant progress that farms and their families have made, and continue to make, to grow, adapt, innovate, and inspire,” Redding said.
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event, featuring 12,000 competitive exhibits, more than 5,200 of which are animal competitions, plus 300 commercial exhibitors. Still missing this year though will be the bird exhibits.
“At this show you will not see poultry for the reason that the threat is still real for Pennsylvania and the United States when it comes to highly pathogenic avian influenza,” Redding said. “We want to make sure that protect both the public and the $7.1 billion poultry industry.”
The show runs January 6 through 14. Admission is free and parking is $15 in Farm Show lots. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center is easily accessible from Interstates 81 and 83.
