Gas prices continue to increase both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, rose by nine cents to reach $3.88 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by six cents over the same period of time to settle at $3.82. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.72, while the most expensive is $3.90 in Latrobe.
The average national gas price increased by seven cents over the past week to reach $3.67 which is 22 cents more per gallon than a month ago but 41 cents less than one year ago.
Demand for gas actually dropped this week but the cost of oil continues to rise as a result of a lower than anticipated increase in the U.S. Consumer Price Index.
