John “Chuck” Davey passed away April 2, 2023. Chuck was always willing to share his opinions about his health and offer advice on the health of others. He frequently observed he had the “Stevenson heart” and was unlikely to reach old age. Unfortunately, Chuck was right! He was the son of the late Dr. Gerald P. Davey and Gertrude Say Davey. He was born in Pittsburgh, but his childhood was spent in the family home in Bruin. He was a graduate of Karns City High School, Carnegie Tech, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He practiced law in Butler for the past 30 years until his retirement.
Chuck was affectionately known as “The Professor” by his close friends for self-perceived vast knowledge across many subjects. He had love for riding his bicycle including several long-distance bike adventures, the history of the northern Butler County oil industry, playing the organ for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and preserving the food he grew each summer from his organic garden.
Chuck was past president of the Butler Historical Society, Butler County Symphony board member, a member of the Butler County Civil War Roundtable, past member of the Butler Elks Club, Chairman of the City Butler Bicycle Commission, and a member of the Butler County Planning Commission.
He is survived by numerous distant cousins and close friends the May and Price families.
A memorial service celebrating the life of John Charles will be held April 26 @ 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Merry Malloy, officiating. A lunch will be served following the service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Butler County Symphony Orchestra.
