University of Pittsburgh athletic legend Herb Douglas, who became the first Pittsburgh native to win an Olympic medal, has passed away at the age of 101. Mr. Douglas was the oldest American Olympic medalist, taking the bronze in the long jump (then called the broad jump) at the London Games in 1948. He was the first Black basketball player at Taylor-Allderdice High School and among the first Black football players at the University of Pittsburgh, where he collected multiple degrees. Douglas went on to a very successful business and philanthropic career.
