A bill is advancing in the state senate that would look to provide more insurance coverage when it comes to testing for Lyme Disease.
The law was proposed in response to the high incidence rate of Lyme Disease, according to State Senator Michele Brooks. She says Pennsylvania has led the country in Lyme disease cases in 10 out of the last 11 years.
“My legislation seeks to combat long-term effects of Lyme and other tick-borne related diseases by promoting education and awareness among healthcare practitioners, providing coverage for diagnostic testing and treatment,” Brooks said. “It also aims to improve public awareness about tick bite prevention practices.”
About 100,000 people in the state contract Lyme disease each year.
