Senator Bob Casey is applauding a federal agency’s move to adopt new safety standards to help prevent furniture from falling over in the house.
Casey was the sponsor of the STURDY Act—which aimed to strengthen furniture safety standards in an effort to reduce tip-over accidents.
Casey says the Consumer Product Safety Commission adopted the new safety standards earlier this month.
Federal studies have shown that there is an average of 19,400 emergency room-treated injuries each year to children caused by furniture tipping over.
