Butler County’s agriculture land preservation easement purchase program continues to succeed in conserving land to only be used for farming in the future.
Since its inception 26 years ago, the preservation program now includes 72 farms and nearly 7,400 acres.
The Butler County Commissioners appoint nine members of the agricultural land preservation board to carry out easement purchases based on applications from interested farmers.
Using Marcellus legacy funds from the county along with Department of Agriculture funds from the state, nearly $25 million has been spent to help farm owners buy equipment and supplies as well as plan for the future.
